Every feeding journey is unique – and sometimes, getting off to the right start just takes a little extra support. Your initial lactation consultation is a one-on-one session designed to understand your specific challenges, answer your questions, and create a plan that fits your family’s goals.

What to Expect
During your first visit, we’ll take time to listen, observe, and learn what’s happening for both you and your baby. Your appointment typically includes:
A thorough feeding assessment — observation of a breastfeeding or bottle-feeding session
Oral and structural evaluation of your baby (tongue, palate, jaw, and body tension)
Nipple, breast, and pumping assessment for comfort, milk transfer, and milk supply
Weighted feeding (if in person) to measure how much milk your baby takes during the feeding
Personalized feeding plan based on your goals, whether that’s exclusive breastfeeding, combination feeding, pumping, or weaning
Resources and follow-up recommendations
This visit is all about you — your questions, your goals, and your confidence.

In-Person Appointments:
Perform an oral exam to assess tongue function and palate shape
Complete a pre- and post-feed weight to measure milk transfer
Adjust positioning and latch together with immediate feedback
Use tools such as flange measurement, shields, or pumping demonstrations
- Observe a full feeding in real time
This option is ideal for families who need detailed assessment, hands-on help, or have complex feeding concerns.
Virtual Appointments:
- Discuss your history, goals, and current feeding routine
- Observe a feeding over video to evaluate latch, positioning, and baby’s cues
- Identify possible issues with milk supply or feeding mechanics
- Create a personalized care plan and discuss next steps
I’ll guide you in positioning your camera so I can see what’s needed. Virtual consults are perfect for ongoing support, mild latch issues, pumping or supply concerns, or when in-person visits aren’t convenient.
